„Kulturen der Heimcomputermusik“ ist ein von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) gefördertes Projekt an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. Im Kontext der Digital Humanities widmet sich das Projekt der Erforschung der Geschichte der Digitalität aus musikwissenschaftlicher Perspektive.
Ziel ist eine musikalische Kulturgeschichte der Heimcomputer der 1980er Jahre, insbesondere der 8- und 16-Bit-Plattformen. Ausgehend von einem Überblick über die Hard- und Software der frühen Heimcomputer liegt der Schwerpunkt auf den musikalischen Praktiken, die sich rund um diese technologischen Kristallisationspunkte entwickelten.
Das Projekt wurde gemeinsam vom Institut für Musikwissenschaft (Prof. Dr. Christoph Hust) und der Fachrichtung Komposition/Tonsatz (Prof. Ipke Starke) konzipiert.

“Cultures of Home Computer Music” is a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and based at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre. Situated within the field of Digital Humanities, the project explores the history of digitality from a musicological perspective.
The aim of the project is to develop a musical cultural history of home computers in the 1980s, with a particular focus on 8-bit and 16-bit platforms. Building on an overview of early home computer hardware and software, the project concentrates on the musical practices that emerged around these technological points of crystallization.
The project was jointly conceived by the Institute of Musicology (Prof. Dr. Christoph Hust) and the Department of Composition and Music Theory (Prof. Ipke Starke).
